Stratford Road gets new average speed cameras

As part of its commitment to improving road safety, Solihull Council has installed new average speed enforcement cameras on the A34 Stratford Road in Shirley.

Positioned in the 40mph section of the Stratford Road, between the B4102 Marshall Lake Road and the M42 Motorway junctions, the cameras will monitor the speed of vehicles travelling in both directions.

Library book amnesty – please bring your books back

Solihull library users are being urged to scour their homes for overdue library books and return them anonymously this month – with no fine to pay, no matter how overdue they are.

Throughout January and February, Solihull libraries are holding an amnesty with anonymous drop-off points available at all libraries in the borough. This means customers won’t need to speak to a librarian, they can just drop their overdue books into the library boxes. Returned items will then be logged back onto the system and replaced on the shelves for other library users to enjoy.

Are you looking to make a difference? Join our online fostering information evening this Wednesday

On Wednesday 11 January from 6.30 to 7.30pm, Solihull Council will be hosting an event for anyone interested in becoming a foster carer. There will be a presentation from our experienced fostering team followed by a chance to ask any questions you have and time for a general discussion.

Lots of people think they can’t become foster carers for a variety of reasons – not owning their own home, being single, being over or under a certain age, but in most cases none of these issues will stop you from joining our wonderful community of foster carers in Solihull. A spare room and a willingness to give your time and love to a child who needs it are the main things needed to be a foster carer.
